![]() I was constantly reassured by Skedaddle staff that I would be fine. I was so looking forward to my snorkeling trip with Skedaddle while on a cruise up the east coast of Australia! I was really hoping to see a turtle!įrom the very beginning of my booking process I expressed concern that the timing of the cruise ship anchoring and the tendering process might make it difficult for me to get into Cairns and to the Skedaddle boat on time. If you want a professional, friendly, knowledge snorkel/dive trip to the reef without the faff of beach trips and early starts, this is the trip you need Stepped off the boat at 16,00 to our shoes all lined up on the marina deck. We readied to return to the Reef about 14,40 and engines fired up and running to return at 14,57 More types of fish than I ever seen whilst snorkeling, and even a sea turtle graced us with its prescence We were lucky with the calm sea conditions making a very smooth ride and almost unlimited visability whilst on the Reef. Take the time to go on the glass bottom boat tour, some great explanations of the Reef structure and the conservation efforts the Skeedaddle guys are doing to help the reef. There is a snorkel tour which is well worth the time, our guide Nikki, pointed out loads of stuff we wouldn't have seen and told us all about the fish and reef.įree snorkeling was then available, or could be from the off if you opted out of the tour. Whilst the captain and crew tied up the boat we had a snorkel safety briefing, this takes about 10 mins and then you are ready to snorkel or go on the glass bottom boat ride. We cast off at 11,18am, and arrived at the reef 12,18pm. Take your seat, remembering the further back you sit the less bouncy it is, and complete a medical form attached to a clipboard (pen provided) Head onto the boat where you are asked to put your shoes into a box, then are issued your fins and mask by the crew, these can be stowed in pockets along the inside of the boat so are not an inconvenience in the trip. Make sure you have evidence of the confirmation of your booking as they wish to see this, and at this point are issued with a stinger suit if required. We took an average size beach bag with water, some snacks and issentials, this can be stored under your seat. You are asked to sign in onto a register and are issued a safety number which you keep throughout the day. ![]() We arrived at about 10,45 for the 11,00 boarding and were asked to wait a few minutes while the prepared the boat. The joining instructions are quite clear and include a map for reference. The crew of 5 are very friendly and efficient. There is a water fountain and bottles water available on board. It has a roof and open sides, which can be zipped up in inclement weather, so shade and protection is available. With 2000hp on tap you could literally surf off the wake as she cuts through the water. This is a very fast boat, it takes about 1hr to reach the outer reef, as opposed to 2hr or more for the larger boats. The larger than it looks in the pictures boat can be found just down the E arm of the pier. ![]()
